Third-party and contract pharma manufacturing, with the right manufacturer

In third-party manufacturing, a licensed manufacturer makes a product that is marketed under another company's brand. Contract manufacturing is a closely related arrangement, often used when the client brings its own formulation or specification. In both, the manufacturer is responsible for making the product to the agreed composition, quality and pack, and the brand owner is responsible for marketing it.

The terms between the two are written into a manufacturing or supply agreement. Getting those terms right at the start, from the rate and the minimum quantity to lead times and what happens if a batch fails a test, prevents most of the disputes that come later.

Two quotes for the same product can differ because of batch size, pack, the grade of packing material, whether testing is included and who pays freight. Put side by side as they arrive, they are not comparable.
